The 2012 Series Concerts
To ensure this 10th anniversary season is the best yet, we’re bringing back as many of our audiences’ favourite musicians as possible.
We begin with a salon recital given by the sublime pianist Sam Haywood, who is making his third appearance with us, this time as a soloist in Chopin, contextualising his music with works by Alkan and Field.
Everyone loves the deeply musical Chilingirian Quartet who promise to delight with Haydn’s Op. 76, No. 5, treat us to Ravel’s only quartet and whet our appetite for the forthcoming Schubertiad with the Rosamunde Quartet.
This year’s Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme Artist is Peter Facer, whose beautiful oboe playing recently attracted praise from no less than Sir Simon Rattle. He’ll be joined by Richard Uttley, who has been described as ‘a pianist with something to say’. As in past seasons, the proceeds of this concert will go towards the work of our Fund for Young Musicians.
The Brook Street Band are also returning for the third time. In the past they have delighted us with al fresco concerts and inspired young musicians with their workshops. This time, in addition to their Saturday evening recital of ‘English Eccentrics’, inspired by Stanley Sadie, they’ll be at the Manor on the Friday evening to talk about and perform Bach’s Musical Offering Sonata; the audience is warmly invited to picnic beforehand on the Manor Lawn.
Following the Schubertiad, the dynamic, Russian Dominant Quartet, whose recitals we’ve twice before enjoyed, brings this anniversary season to a poignant end with Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet.
In tune with our continuing commitment to encouraging young musicians, this season we're offering two exciting, pre-season concerts by two generations of exceptional young artists on 14 January and 18 February at the new Cossington Village Hall. We hope very much that you will support these very special events.
