The Manor Garden Theatre - plays, operas and concerts in the open air

The Manor Garden Theatre, with its unique living willow shell designed by the willow sculptor Barbara Clift, opened in the summer of 2005 with an afternoon concert by the Brook Street Band, followed in 2006 by a highly entertaining staged production of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, performed by the veteran Theatre Set-Up company before a record crowd of 180 picnickers on a glorious day in July.  We were not so lucky with the weather in 2007, 2008 and 2009: such was the deluge that Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas had to be moved to Woolavington Village Hall; and those who braved the rain to see the Theatre Set-Up’s splendid, waterproof production of All’s Well That Ends Well were able to shelter under two large gazebos. The two open-air Handel Festival events had to be moved indoors - the orchestral concert to Edington Village Hall and Acis and Galatea to St Mary’s, Cossington – happily, with no ill-effect on the performances or the morale of the audiences.

The Manor Garden Theatre depends on good weather.  While some theatre troupes will perform whatever the weather, concert performances require ideal conditions.  Cossington Concerts will always have a ‘Plan B’ in case of unfavourable weather.  If in doubt, consult Latest News
