For the first five seasons (2002-2006), Cossington Concerts were held either in St Mary the Virgin, Cossington, or in the Manor and its grounds. Both the church and the Manor have limited seating (125 and 45 respectively). This is reflected in the programming: classical chamber music has been the order of the day.
In 2007, recognising the potential to appeal to a wider audience, the Trust began holding events in other, larger venues in the Polden Hills. Both Acoustic Triangle at St Mary’s, Woolavington in 2007 and the Chilingirian Quartet at St Michael & All Angels, Bawdrip in 2008 sold out. To accommodate still larger audiences and attract young people to our events we have since 2009 taken concerts with masterclasses to local area schools: last season to Millfield in Street and this season to Queen’s College in Taunton.
Cossington Manor Gardens, Shapwick House and the magnificent garden at Tower House, Chilton Polden have hosted concerts associated with Musicales. Cossington Concerts welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with its neighbours and other South West arts and educational organisations.
